How Do I request an independent study?

Independent Studies, or 499’s, are available in most disciplines in 1, 2 or 3 credit amounts. Students need to fill out an Application for Directed Study Course form which is available in the Registry. Students should begin by submitting the completed application 45 days prior to the start of term and must include a course syllabus. Please note some programs restrict the number of 499’s that can be counted  towards the degree.

How do I Calculate my GPA?

You can find your GPA on your online Program Advisor Report.  Your GPA for each term and your cumulative GPA are listed in the Academic History section and your major GPA and graduating GPA are found in the Program Analysis section.
To calculate your GPA manually, multiply the number of credits for a course by the grade point value (see chart below), this will give you the weight for the course.  Add the weight for all of your courses and divide by the total number of credits.  Pass fail courses do not carry weight so you should exclude these from your calculations.

It does not appear that there is an academic term deadline for redeeming the awards. (See http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/awards/passport/). If you have your booklet you can bring it in to the Office of the Registrar and we’ll check it over, stamp and sign it. If not then you’ll need to fill out a “Request for Letter” form.
