The first time a student is to be placed in courses, he or she must be assigned a student id.
At most institutions this follows admission. This means that on the Admission Application tab, an entry exists in the File Status field. If this is the case, then you are ready to proceed.
On the toolbar the icon (or Students | Register a New Student from the menu). This will produce a confirmation dialog below:
Clicking Yes will continue the process.
Normally, the Student ID will be automatically assigned based on the first four digits of the year of application. Two series of ids are tracked; if the year of application falls outside these two series (which might occur during historical data entry) and the operator is a member of the Manager User Group, then the following dialog will appear.
If the id is known it can be typed in this dialog. However, normal practice at this point would be to enter the last two digits of the year of admission followed by four 9s (for example, if that was 2007/08, then 079999). This will hunt for an available student id in that year.
In either case, once the student id has been assigned, several dialogs will appear asking whether to copy information from the application to local information. Examples of these are below:
Once this process is complete, the remaining tabs that are disabled and to which the operator has rights are enabled. One of these is the Course Registration tab.
