King's Admission Information
This part of this Wiki is intended to capture miscellaneous notes on various admission issues related to King's. The Calendar http://registry.kingsu.ca/Calendar, as always, should be the primary source of information. These are intended to be more elaborative notes. In some cases, to keep the pages relatively short, sub pages will be created.

Math
Math curricula have undergone quite significant revision across the country. This table is a brief attempt to provide the equivalents for our admission math courses. This only lists courses that do not appear in our admission course charts in the Calendar as they are just being implemented at levels below Grade 12. Also note that NT follows the Alberta Curriculum and so does not appear below.

BC English Literature 12
For some reason, BC high schools seem to be under the impression that if a course is not listed under our standard courses that it is not accepted for admission, or that we are indicating that it is not a "rigorous" or "academic" course. None of that is correct. We do accept this course in our 5th course category of any 12 level course. Even better, unlike the U of A, we will allow a student to submit both English 12 and English Literature 12.

Mature Student Status
This status is often missed as a basis for admission in discussions with prospective students. Our policy is that a student must be 21 by the September of the year of admission. Our practice, however, is somewhat more generous -- if the student is going be 21 for a significant fraction of the first term of admission we will use this basis. E.g. If someone is turning 21 by the end of October, he/she could be admitted to the Fall term as a Mature student. If someone is going to be 21 by the end of February, a similar approach could be used.

"Open Studies"
There is a little terminology confusion in the larger postsecondary scene in Alberta regarding "Open Studies." At King's, a student would be in the equivalent of "open studies" if they are admitted as unclassified (meaning that they only need to demonstrate pre-requisites) and are in an undeclared program. So if someone asks about our open studies program, we have the equivalent just not the label.
