Most windows in CrossRoad include a toolbar that will have navigation buttons. These are generally on the leftmost portion of the toolbar. There are two groups of these navigation buttons.
Go to the First record in the file. This may also be accessed by using Ctrl-Home. Note that "First" is defined by the order the file is in. In Name order for Current Students or Prospective Students, it is alphabetical by name. If the order were insteady by File # or by Student ID, it would be numerical by the relevant identifier.
Go to the previous record in the file. This may also be accessed by using PgUp.
Go to the next record in the file. This may also be accessed by using PgDn.
Go to the last record in the file. This may also be accessed by using Ctrl-End.
Record Location
This button, which may also be accessed by F5, displays a small dialog box which allows input of the appropriate value to search for in the current file. What that value is depends on the file, and the order that file is in. For example, in Course Templates it will be a course code. In Current Students, in name order, it will be a name. In places where a name is requested, a surname and a first name may be specified by typing the surname followed by a semi-colon (;) followed by the first name. In general, partial entries will take you to the next nearest record.
This button, which may also be accessed by Alt-F3, displays a somewhat more complicated dialog box that allows searching for values based on several other items. What those are varies by what file is being examined. For current students, for instance, the following options, selected by clicking the appropriate button, are available. Note that some go to the first nearest match in the list that is displayed, while others loop through the entire file displaying potential matches (these items are marked with an *):
- Name
- Soundex - a search by name that is somewhat spelling independent
- Student ID
- File #
- First Name* - this will check the firstname and preferred name fields
- Former Name*
- Birthdate*
- SIN* - Social Insurance Number
- Phone*
- Address* - this will check the street address fields of home, local and other addresses in Current Students
- Email* - this will check all three email addresses in Current students
Once the means is selected, the operator should move into the "Search For" box, which will be updated with the value for the current record to provide an example. Clicking the "Find" Button moves to the matching record. Records may also be selected from the displayed list. Once the desired record is highlighted, clicking the "Close" button will move the main display to the appropriate record.
