CALENDAR DESCRIPTION: |
This course deals with the major intellectual, political, social, a
nd economic changes since World War I. Among the topics covered are:
the legacy of the Great War, the Great Depression, democracy and
totalitarianism, World War II, the Cold War, decolonization, European
unification, and major trends in thought, sciences, and religion.
Prerequisite: HIST 202 or 204

COURSE OBJECTIVES: | By the end of this course students will:
- acquire
an in-depth knowledge of the key ideological, social, political,
economic, religious, cultural and international developments between
1914 and 2005;
- be able to analyse and interpret a range of primary sources from this period;
- have an awareness of the main historiographical debates in this period
- develop their skills of critical analysis, interpretation, evaluation, communication and debate
- further refine their Christian perspective and outlook through an extended engagement with the past
