COURSE DESCRIPTION: An introduction to the principles and applications of GIS. Hands-on lab assignments focus on data input and manipulation, spatial problem solving, and map presentation using GIS software on micro-computers. Students complete a GIS-based project.

Prerequisite: 3 credits of BUSI 320, CMPT 2xx, GEOG 201, GEOG 310, PSYC 302, STAT 300

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  • Understand the general role of GIS and applications to specific environmental issues.
  • Gain basic familiarity with a GIS software package
  • Understand the underlying principles of GIS (i.e. projection, cartography, remote sensing, digital data representation, spatial analysis, vector and raster data, etc)
