COURSE DESCRIPTION: | A course on a topic of figure of special interest to a
member of the English faculty and offered on a non-recurring
basis.
Prerequisites: ENGL 204, 205 2012/13 Winter This course will introduce students to the literature and politics of post-restoration England. Through an exploration of John Bunyan’s major allegories and selections of his prose writings, students will learn to recognize the connections that link Reformational church practices, state politics and the literary representations of these energies. The grand literary motifs of wayfaring and warfaring will be the focus of our inquiry and will provide a framework for discussion of John Bunyan’s themes as they apply to the individual believer and to the community at large. |
