COURSE DESCRIPTION: | A course on a topic of figure of special interest to a
member of the history faculty and offered on a non-recurring basis.
Prerequisites: HIST 202 or 204 2011/12 Winter This course deals with some selected topics in African History from pre-colonial times to the present. The principal aim is to introduce students to some of the main currents of African History and to provide insights into its society and culture. Topics to be covered include: pre-colonial times; culture; commerce and state building; the trans-Saharan and Atlantic trade, Islam and the socio-political changes it brought; the Atlantic Slave Trade and European Imperialism. |
